Core Bilberry is a Spagyric extract of Bilberry fruit, which belongs to the same family as blueberries, cranberries, huckleberries and black currants. Its first medicinal benefits were discovered during World War II. British RAF pilots would spread Bilberry jam on their daily bread, and during the same period of time it was observed that the pilots were becoming increasingly successful at hitting their targets, which they attributed to their daily consumption of Bilberries. Since that initial observation, many studies have concluded that the reported connection between Bilberries and improved vision is due to the high content of a specific antioxidant called anthocyanidins. Clinically it has been shown that these anthocyanidins assist capillaries, the tiny blood vessels that fill the eyes, the skin and other parts of the body, by increasing the ability of fluids and nutrients to pass through veins and to capillaries. By supporting good circulation and scavenging free radicals, Bilberry helps to keep the capillaries strong and healthy. By this token, Bilberry has been used traditionally to deter bruising, to ensure good circulation to connective tissues, maintaining the blood supply to the eyes, and to help with heart conditions.
