Heat Exhaustion and Heatstroke

Heat Exhaustion, also known as Heatstroke, happens when one is overexposed to the sun or high temperatures. While most people are careful not to overdo the amount of time in the heat, there are times when they may not be as mindful of the sun or heat. Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion are weakness, dizziness, nausea, and muscle cramping from loss of fluid. Heatstroke is often more severe, with the possibility of brain damage or even death. Therefore, seeking medical attention quickly is imperative. If you suspect someone has Heat Exhaustion or Heatstroke get the person out of the sun and provide rest, fluid replacement, and cooling. Cooling can be accomplished by applying ice packs and wrapping the person in a cool, wet sheet. Get medical attention promptly.
