OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) refers to a disorder where the brain gets "stuck". Compulsions and rituals, some of which may include excessive hand washing, checking, counting, etc., characterize this disorder. Conventional treatment for OCD may include medication and cognitive behavioral therapy. Although this combination may work for some individuals, when the medication is stopped the symptoms of OCD return. Recent studies have shown that those with OCD are often deficient in important amino acids or "brain messengers" such as serotonin. Recommendations include replacing nutritional deficiencies, especially amino acids and serotonin. Cognitive behavioral therapy may also be helpful. *
