Sore Throat

Sore Throats are usually a symptom of a cold or flu. The causative agent can be either viral or bacterial, the most common being streptococcus. In addition, a Sore Throat may be caused by anything that irritates the mucous membranes at the back of the throat. GI and esophageal disturbances, such as indigestion, hiatal hernia, and acid reflux may also irritate the throat, causing symptoms. Sore Throats are seldom serious and usually resolve themselves within a one-week period. Occasionally, Sore Throats may also be a sign of other more serious disorders.
