Ulcers

An Ulcer is an open wound that develops in the tissue of the digestive tract. There are two main types of Ulcers, Peptic and Gastric Ulcers, which form in the stomach. The gastric juice that is produced in the stomach contains hydrochloric acid, mucous, and an enzyme called pepsin. Sometimes, the mixture of pepsin and acids acts on the wall of the digestive tract and the result is a peptic ulcer. Duodenal Ulcers form in the small intestines near the stomach. They are more common than Gastric Ulcers. How do you know if you have an Ulcer? Pain! The pain may occur from 30 to 60 minutes after eating. The pain rarely comes in the morning, but usually follows after lunch and dinner. And it may occur after midnight. Intense burning pain occurs in the area or chest and/or upper abdomen. Additional symptoms are: weight loss, a decrease in appetite, anemia, nausea, and vomiting. There may be times when the pain of an Ulcer seems to be gone and then it suddenly returns. Pain associated with Ulcers affects different people in different ways. There are different causes for the formation of Ulcers. In most cases, the bacterium "H. pylori" is responsible for the majority of Ulcers. Some medications can also cause Ulcers such as those used to relieve the swelling of arthritis. Additionally care should be taken when using ibuprofen and aspirin since they can cause irritation and bleeding. Recommendations include dietary changes, reducing stress, and supplements to encourage healing of the stomach lining and normal bowel function.*

Betaine HCL: 1 with each main or cooked meal. Bacteria called Helicobacter pylori can be responsible for ulcers in the stomach lining. Also a lack of hydrochloric acid may well be the cause. To test whether or not you need more hydrochloric acid, take 1 Betaine HCL with a meal. If you notice more burning, then you do not need hydrochloric acid. If you take 1 and the burning sensation lessens, or goes away, (improves), then you need more HCL. To test how much HCL you might need, try taking 1 with each meal. If your symptoms get worse, than cut back to 2/day. If you still notice burning, decrease to 1 daily.
