Why Systemic Enzymes? As you may know, enzymes are the essential building blocks of life. They are key to the body’s ability to properly digest and benefit from the food we eat, and they provide the energy we use to rebuild muscles, cells, nerves, tissue, bone, and glands. As such, these enzymes spark the chemical reactions responsible for breathing, digestion, growth, reproduction, and most other body functions. Dr. Max Wolf, M.D., who researched enzymes and hormones at Columbia University from the 1930's through the 1960's, determined that enzyme production diminishes in humans after age 27. While humans have historically supplemented their enzyme levels by consuming fresh, raw foods, modern preservation and preparation techniques often destroy the enzymes these foods contain. Combined, these conditions create an enzyme deficiency that causes our bodies and normal body functions to break down. What does this mean? It means we must supplement our diets with systemic enzymes – those that offer system-wide benefits – just as we supplement the vitamins, minerals, and herbs that are essential for good health.

Definition of enzymes: Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts, speeding the rate at which biochemical reactions proceed but not altering the direction or nature of the reactions. Enzymes are found in every cell of every living plant and animal, including humans. As biocatalysts, they either begin a reaction or cause a reaction to speed up. Without enzymes, life would not exist.

The enzymatic process: Enzymes work by virtue of their shape. An enzyme molecule can be compared, in shape at least, to many short strings of pearls (amino acids) strung together. This long string folds in on itself as certain sequences of amino acids are more attracted to each other than to other sequences, thus giving the enzymes a specific shape.*

Vitalzym Highlights: Vitalzym is natural. It contains no animal derivatives, artificial flavors, yeast, or gluten. Vitalzym is lactose free and contains no harmful talc. Vitalzym is produced with enterically coated enzymes. Vitalzym’s formulation permits it to operate in an extremely wide pH range, allowing for better absorption in the stomach. Vitalzym uses pure high-potency enzymes rather than extracts.

Ingredients:

Serrapeptase: Also known as Serratia peptidase; a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the non-pathogenic enterobacteria Serratia E15. Serrapeptase has been shown to be one of the most fibrinolytic enzymes available today.

Protease: Any enzyme that catalyzes the splitting of proteins into smaller peptide fractions and amino acids by a process known as proteolysis.

Bromelain: An enzyme found in pineapples that breaks down other proteins, such as collagen.

Papain: A proteolytic enzyme obtained from unripe papaya. Amylase Any of a group of proteins found in saliva and pancreatic juice and parts of plants, Amylase digests carbohydrates and helps convert starch to sugar.

Lipase: Lipase digests fat. It is an enzyme secreted in the digestive tract that catalyzes the breakdown of fats into individual fatty acids that can be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Amla: Amla is the richest source of Vitamin C. It also contains tannic acid, glucose, protein, cellulose and calcium. Amla is considered to have restorative and preventive properties.

Rutin: One of the many existing flavonoids. Flavonoids support health by strengthening capillaries and other connective tissue.*

Recommended Use: As a dietary supplement, take 1-3 capsules, 1 to 3 times daily. Take capsules at least 30 minutes before a meal, 60 minutes after a meal, or any time in-between meals. Or, take an activation dosage as recommended by a health care professional.*

Warning: DO NOT take Vitalzym without the consent of your physician if you are lactating, or currently taking prescription anti-coagulants (blood thinners). As always, you should consult with a health care professional and/or pharmacist if you are taking prescription medications and would like to include dietary supplements into your regimen.
